Is A Boiler Service Necessary?

Although a boiler service may seem like an unnecessary extra cost each year, it really is an important measure to ensure that your boiler is working safely and efficiently to increase the lifespan of your boiler, in turn saving you money in the long run.

What does a Boiler Service involve?

  • The boiler is fired to identify any faults
  • The main components including the burner, heat exchanger and the spark electrode are checked
  • Flue terminals and internal flue compartments are checked and sealed properly
  • Using a flue gas analyser, the burner is checked to make sure it’s burning efficiently
  • Boiler parts are cleaned if necessary
  • Gas tightness test is conducted to ensure there are no gas leaks
  • Boiler casing is checked to make sure it's sealed properly

When is the best time to get my boiler serviced?

Contrary to common misconception, the best time to have your boiler serviced is actually during the summer months as once winter approaches, so do the boiler breakdowns.

Heating engineers across the country could be fully booked by callouts and you will likely have to wait much longer to get your heating and hot water up and running again ,whereas in summertime, you can schedule your service for when is best for you and you won’t be waiting in the cold.

What could happen if I don’t get it checked?

  1. Death. Each year around 60 people die in the UK as a result of Carbon Monoxide poisoning due to its ability to go undetected. A boiler service can identify a Carbon Monoxide leak and put a stop to it.
  2. Broken boiler. Unidentified small problems eventually lead to much bigger ones which either cost a lot of money or require the boiler to be replaced entirely which can be very expensive. If you are in need of a new boiler, receive a free onsite quotation from us today.
  3. High fuel bill. The less efficient a boiler is, the higher your fuel bills will be. Cut costs and reduce your carbon footprint by getting your boiler serviced.
  4. Invalid warranty. Many boiler manufacturers state that if you fail to have your boiler serviced regularly by a Gas Safe registered engineer, your warranty will become invalid. Here at The Local Heating Man we offer up to 10 Year Warranties, and to ensure your warranty remains valid, you must have an annual service performed by Gas Safe registered engineer.
  5. Hefty Fines / Prison. If you are a landlord, you are legally required to have all gas boilers and appliances Gas Safe Certified or you could face large fines and/or even jail time.
